Main Street
Lots and blocks, a 30-foot right of way, permanent easements, quarter-section ties and centerline, over the original downtown grid.
Markey Parkway
A new arterial across open ground, with the west intersection rebuilt to take it. Roadway and median, sidewalk and trail both sides, drive approaches, storm sewer, lighting, signing and striping. Run the pointer along the corridor to read station and existing grade.

The survey it was set out from
Section corners, quarter lines, deed boundaries, and easements sorted by what runs in them. Markey Parkway is not near the section line, it is on it. From station 10+00 to 64+52, 5,452 feet, the alignment stays within a foot of the line and averages 0.13 feet off it. It leaves only where the first curve begins. The part that happens after the plans
Design is half of it. Somebody still has to be standing there when the pipe goes in. Click any photograph to open it.
Slipform paving. Ready-mix into the belt placer, dowel baskets set ahead of the machine, finishers behind it. The same pavement, cured and jointed. Median in, lighting up, nothing on it yet. Asphalt mat going down against new curb and sidewalk. Traffic staged around the work. Cast-in-place retaining wall. Epoxy-coated cage tied, drainage board and waterproofing on the back face, soldier pile and lagging holding the cut behind it. Triple-cell box culvert with flared wingwalls. Riprap keyed in at the outlet and the channel already carrying flow. Detention basin shaped and matted. Turf reinforcement over the flow path so it holds before the grass takes. Storm sewer replacement. Old pipe out, new structures staged, the street kept open. The same job finished. Twin outlet, riprap apron sized for the design discharge, fabric under the rock. Survey control set up over an active job. Precast box culvert going in behind it, riprap stockpiled for the outlet. A digital level part way through a run, reading to the thousandth of a foot. This is how a benchmark gets carried down a corridor.
